As the successor of the classic Fortwo, the new car is undergoing intensive engineering testing in many parts of the world, and it is officially confirmed that the car will complete the world premiere at the Paris Auto Show, which opens on October 12, 2026. The test car exposed this time uses black and white custom camouflage coating designed exclusively by Mercedes-Benz's global design team, which completely releases a full set of test progress information such as chassis, control, NVH, and body safety. In terms of appearance, although the mass production version is still wrapped in camouflage, the design and shape of the new car can already be roughly seen. It can be found that the headlight group of the new car adopts a triangular style, similar to the concept car, and the LED light group is built in; the front enclosure adopts a large-size heat dissipation opening design, and the overall design looks more flexible. According to official data, smart sprite # 2 is based on the brand's self-developed ECA pure electric compact architecture. This platform is specifically developed for miniature pure electric two-seater vehicles. The core goal is to take into account flexible control, quietness in the car, structural safety and daily pure electric practicality in extremely small body sizes. In order to match the complex road conditions of the city, the engineering team completed multi-dimensional dynamic adjustment for the chassis. The test site simulates real-world scenarios such as urban sudden obstacles, emergency lane changes, and low-adhesion slippery pavements, and continuously optimizes the suspension installation point, steering transmission ratio, steering stroke, and shock absorption control logic to ensure stable and responsive control performance of the trolley in daily commuting. At the same time, the new car completed a large number of durability tests, and continued to pass the pothole damaged pavement, continuous bump pavement, and roadside impact conditions, simulating the common bottom dragging and overhanging scenarios in the city to verify the long-term use reliability of the body and chassis. The special crash test also completed the calibration for high-frequency urban accident scenarios such as roadside and deep pit impact. From the side of the body, the new car also maintains the classic cockpit structure of the Fortwo model. The front and rear eyebrows form a small wide body design. At the same time, the new car continues the smart iconic "four-wheel and four-corner" body layout. The short front and rear suspension design maximizes the utilization of the interior space. The length of the whole car is 2.79 meters, and the turning diameter is only 6.95 meters. The flexibility of the city shuttle of the same class of the old Fortwo is retained. In the rear part, the new taillight group also adopts a circular design, which is slightly different from the concept car. At the same time, it is also equipped with a roof spoiler. The license plate frame area is set in the middle of the trunk door, and the overall collocation is more layered. NVH quiet optimization is the key part of this test. The official implementation of full-scene noise vibration verification covers wind tunnels, acoustic laboratories, four-column temperature control test benches, closed test fields and public roads. The test project includes high-speed wind noise, road noise, electric drive system vibration, interior abnormal noise caused by temperature difference, body friction abnormal noise, and targeted optimization of vehicle acoustic texture. Engineers simultaneously test a variety of different formulations of tires, repeatedly calibrate the damaged asphalt, grooved concrete, high-speed straight road and other road surfaces, balance the two needs of low roll resistance (improved endurance) and tire noise suppression, and solve the high-speed noise problem that is common in micro-electric vehicles. The parameters related to power and battery life have been previously disclosed simultaneously. The ECA platform is equipped with a 35.7kWh battery pack. The WLTP operating condition has a target endurance of about 300km, and the CLTC endurance is about 400km. It supports DC fast charging. The 10% -80% charging time is controlled within 20 minutes. The rear-wheel drive layout also guarantees the power response flexibility of urban mobility and gets rid of the shortcomings of traditional miniature trams. At the R&D level, Genie # 2 was jointly developed by the smart global R&D team and the Mercedes-Benz design team. The appearance and interior design continue the brand's iconic recognition, while incorporating the new design language of electrification.
